Fonts:
One of the main issues raise within my audience, peer and teacher feedback for my first draft double page spread was the typography used. The main font used for the artist, although the same as the font within my contents, was too blocky and not appealing to the eye. Altering this font could be a simple change that would enhance the whole pages appearance. The main impression I got from font related feedback was that a more complex and interesting font would help draw attention to the title and have a much more playful and easy going appearance, as opposed to the harsh look of my current typography. Some of the examples below, taken from existing pop genre music magazines, demonstrate how an interesting typography can enhance the overall appearance and finish of a double page spread.
Photography and Editing:
The feedback I received about my photography was similar for all three elements of my media products, indicating that the overall quality of the images could be significantly improved, especially within my double page spread. The images used within my double page spread were of a much lower quality that those within the contents and cover pages. The overall finish of these pictures could have been improved with high level editing, however I did not feel as confident within my editing skills at this point. Having low quality images also made it harder to edit them as the pictures would become grainy or pixelated easily. The images in my double page spread showcased a second outfit, which I felt worked really well as it created a distinction between the cover and double page spread that is common within existing magazines, I also had no negative feedback. However, I do feel that this could be improved as the outfit was very dark, as were the images overall, which made it hard to create a light-hearded and playful looking article like those conventional to the pop genre. Therefore, when retaking photographs for my double page spread, I will not only focus on the quality of the images and lighting techniques but I will also pay careful attention to miss-en-scene to ensure the artist has a bright and colourful appearance that conforms to pop genre conventions and appeals to a larger audience.
Layout:
One of the other main points made in feedback regarding my double page spread was the layout. The main comments suggest that the overall appearance is very cluttered, and this isn't helped by the dark colours in both the images and text. To try and improve my layout I intend to use an existing product to take inspiration from in order to create a much more professional finish within my product. The example below is an article about 'Solange Knowles' from 'Vibe', a pop genre music magazine; I really like the layout of this article as it has interesting images, a good amount of text, and free white space to avoid a cluttered appearance. I intend to somewhat mimic this style for my own final product as I think this will help me to achieve a more professional look.
